How Can We Lower Barriers to Entry for Students to Engage?

Student engagement has many forms. It can be collaborative, visual or vocal. It can be measured and sometimes it can’t.

This guide explores some of the barriers that get in the way of student engagement, and what academics and the wider educational community are doing to address the challenges.

“The transition into university can be daunting and overwhelming for new students. As an academic adviser for first year students, the first group session can provide a useful safe space to share concerns. To facilitate the conversation I use Lego Serious Play”
Sue Beckingham, Principal Lecturer in Digital Analytics & Technologies, Sheffield Hallam University
